I am writing to express my concerns about the new "Respect at Work" bill currently being considered by the Queensland Parliament. This bill, while well-intentioned, seems to have significant implications for faith communities throughout the state. Religious leaders have raised serious concerns about the impact this legislation might have on their ability to operate according to their beliefs and traditions. However, it appears that these concerns have not been adequately addressed by the Premier.

The prospect of the Anti-Discrimination Commission gaining the power to investigate churches, mosques, and synagogues is particularly troubling. Faith communities play a vital role in the moral and social fabric of our society. Subjecting them to potentially intrusive investigations could undermine their independence and ability to function freely. Many members of these communities feel that their right to religious freedom is being compromised, and this sentiment is growing stronger with each passing day.

Given the gravity of the situation, I urge you to consider whether the Government will take the necessary time to refine this bill. It is crucial that we find a balance that upholds the principles of respect and fairness in the workplace without inadvertently encroaching on religious freedoms. I hope to receive a response outlining the steps the Government will take to ensure that the bill respects the concerns of faith communities while still achieving its important objectives.
