Introduce yourself and say something about your family, community, or your faith.

Congratulate them on winning the election and welcome them as your new MP.

Thank

Thank them for the commitments that Labor and the Prime Minister have made to protect religious freedom.

You may choose to mention one or all of these commitments:

  • The Prime Minister committed that “religious freedom will not go backwards”
  • Labor will progress a religious discrimination bill in collaboration with faith leaders.
  • Any legislation impacting religious freedom will be bipartisan with the Coalition and not a deal with the Greens.

(You can read more about the commitments here)

Conclude

Tell them you are looking forward to seeing the Government keep these promises.

Assure them you are praying for them as they serve the community (make sure you do pray!)

Include your name and address, so they know you are a member of their electorate.

Dear ,

****{Introduce yourself and say something about your family, community, or your faith}****

Congratulations on your recent election win. It is an exciting time as you begin your new role with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact. I wanted to express my gratitude for the commitments that Labor and the Prime Minister have made to protect religious freedom, ensuring that "religious freedom will not go backwards." This assurance is significant for many Australians who value the right to practise their faith without discrimination.

It is reassuring to know that Labor plans to progress a religious discrimination bill in collaboration with faith leaders. This approach acknowledges the diverse voices and perspectives within the community and fosters inclusivity. Moreover, the commitment to ensuring any legislation impacting religious freedom will have bipartisan support rather than relying on a deal with the Greens is a thoughtful approach that promotes unity across different political views.

I look forward to witnessing the fulfilment of these promises and the positive impact they will have on religious freedom in Australia. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers as you serve our community with dedication and integrity.
