Congratulate them on winning the election and retaining their seat.

Thank

Thank them for the commitments that the Coalition made to protect religious freedom.

You may choose to mention one or all of these commitments:

  • Protecting freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and freedom from discrimination on the basis of religion.
  • Protecting the right of religious organisations, including faith-based schools, to employ staff based on faith.

(You can read more about the commitments here)

Tell them you are looking forward to seeing the Opposition keep their promises, and hold the Government accountable to protecting religious freedom.

Assure them you are praying for them as they serve the community (make sure you do pray!)

Include your name and address, so they know you are a member of their electorate.

Example letter

This letter is provided as an example. It is always best to write your own letter, however this example is based on a few of the discussion points above and is provided to help you start.

If you are basing your letter off this template, make sure you replace the sections in **{brackets}**

Dear ,

****{Introduce yourself and say something about your family, community, or your faith}****

I am writing to encourage the Coalition to uphold the promises made regarding religious freedom. Your dedication to protecting freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and freedom from discrimination is essential in maintaining the diverse fabric of our society. The assurance that religious organisations, including faith-based schools, can employ staff in line with their faith-based values is a vital aspect of honouring these commitments.

As you embark on this new term in Parliament, I hope the Opposition will vigorously uphold these promises and ensure the Government is held accountable in safeguarding religious freedoms. These protections are not just about preserving rights but also about fostering an environment where all beliefs are respected and valued.

I want you to know you are in my prayers as you serve our community. Your leadership in this regard is vital, and I trust you will continue to champion these essential freedoms for everyone in our nation. Your role is crucial in ensuring that these freedoms remain protected and unhindered.
